Short version: your chat never leaves your phone. We only see what you choose to give us when you buy something.

Your chat stays on your phone

When you see your year, your messages are read and counted by our website inside your phone's browser. They are not uploaded to us or to anyone else, and nobody reads them, not even AI.

Your messages are never saved. So you can come back to your recap, its results (the names, numbers and titles, never the messages) are saved in your own phone's browser for 30 days. They never leave your phone, and you can remove a recap at any time from Your recaps. We don't have a copy and can't get it back for you.

If you send your recap link to your group chat to unlock it for free, we keep only the chat's name and your first name (if you picked it), so the link's preview can say who shared it, plus a random code for each phone that opens the link, so each friend counts once. No messages, names of other people, numbers or titles are sent to us.

Our iPhone Shortcut reads only what's needed to make your year (date, sender, message text and reactions) and hands it straight to our page on your phone.

No account, no sign-up

You don't create an account or give us your email to see your year.

When you buy something

Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. Stripe receives your payment details and email for the receipt.

Shirts and mugs are printed and shipped by Printify and its print partners. To make your order they receive your name, shipping address, email, and the finished design. The design includes the names and stats you chose to print, nothing else from your chat.

We keep a record of each order (what you bought, the design, where it shipped, and the amount) for customer support, refunds, and tax records.

Your friends' names

Your year shows the names saved in your phone. If you print a design, the names on it are sent to Printify only to print that item. Please only print names your friends would be happy to see on a shirt or mug.

What our website logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider records basic technical information (such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit) to keep the site running and secure. This never includes your messages.

We count how many people visit, make a recap, unlock one, or order merch, and which chat app they used. These are plain totals with no names, no messages, and no tracking across other websites.

We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't sell your information.

Kids

Group Chat Recap is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices

You can ask us what order information we have about you, or ask us to delete it (unless we must keep it for tax or legal reasons). Send us a note through our contact form at groupchatrecap.com/contact.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
